Meet Natalie

Background

Natalie was born and raised just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She attended public schools from kindergarten all the way through high school and she is a proud product of public education. Natalie then attended the University of Michigan where she earned a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, International Studies, and Gender & Health. While Natalie has always been passionate about policy, she felt her heart was in a classroom. She taught elementary school Spanish as an undergraduate and this inspired her to pursue her Masters of Arts in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan. Natalie is certified to teach Grades 1-6 All Subjects, Grades K-8 English Language Development, Grades 4-9 English Language Arts, and K-8 Special Education.

Natalie proudly shares diverse literature with her students and loans her library to other staff members.

Educator

Natalie has been teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools since 2019. She has taught fourth grade at Summit Hall Elementary School in Gaithersburg and second grade at Wheaton Woods Elementary School in Rockville. Both are Title I schools. Natalie has taught before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. She plans to bring her classroom experience and expertise to the Board of Education to speak on what real students and teachers encounter every day in Montgomery County Public Schools. Teachers deserve a voice on the Board of Education and Natalie plans to be that voice.

Innovator

No one knows better than Natalie what young educators want from a workplace and how to best support our new career teachers. As MCPS looks to gain and retain highly-qualified educators, Natalie is the best person to help support this endeavor. Natalie comes to the Board of Education with fresh ideas and innovations to improve MCPS and give every child the highest quality public education possible.

Natalie taught online during the COVID-19 pandemic and constantly needed to pivot her lessons so students could gain the most from their time with her while virtual.

Natalie has advocated for students and staff while representing Wheaton Woods as an elected building representative for Montgomery County Education Association.

Advocate

Natalie has advocated for students and staff at MCPS through her work. She has worked for teachers to have a tenable workload - free of bullying from administration, students to have access to other special area subjects, and for all to have safe school buildings to learn and work within. Natalie has previously been employed as an advocate for improving public transportation to gain accessibility for all community members.
